The bliss of a cool walk in the Tamar Valley today. Bonus game: spot the small dog. The cabin in the low light of the partial eclipse this week. Been to a local speed shearing competition. One competitor's name is Mickey Shears. That's either nominative determinism in action or he's really dedicated to his craft. I'm an absolute sucker for sun dried tomatoes in oil, but buying them from the supermarket was threatening to break the bank, so I sussed out making my own with dried tomatoes from the health food shop, and mine taste better if I say so myself. We were chatting with our neighbours the other night. They run the dairy farm we live on the edge of. A nickname that they've got for the block of fields that we live in, which is bounded by about 5km of roads on all sides, is the Emerald Isle. It stays green long after other areas have browned off in drought. Friends of theirs, farming even very close by, will have harvests happening two weeks earlier than usual and will have completely different rainfall patterns.
